The dependence of relative dispersion on turbulence scales in Lagrangian Stochastic Models

چکیده
The aim of the article is to investigate the relative dispersion properties of the Well Mixed class of Lagrangian Stochastic Models. Dimensional analysis shows that given a model in the class, its properties depend solely on a non-dimensional parameter, which measures the relative weight of Lagrangian-to-Eulerian scales. This parameter is formulated in terms of Kolmogorov constants, and model properties are then studied by modifying its value in a range that contains the experimental variability. Large variations are found for the quantity g∗ = 2gC 0 , where g is the Richardson constant, and for the duration of the t regime. Asymptotic analysis of model behaviour clarifies some inconsistencies in the literature and excludes the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process from being considered a reliable model for relative dispersion.

Influence of Eulerian and Lagrangian scales on the relative dispersion properties in Lagrangian stochastic models of turbulence.
The influence of Eulerian and Lagrangian scales on the turbulent relative dispersion is investigated through a three-dimensional Eulerian consistent Lagrangian stochastic model. As a general property of this class of models, it is found to depend solely on a parameter beta based on the Kolmogorov constants C(K) and C0. This parameter represents the ratio between the Lagrangian and Eulerian scal...
متن کاملHistory of Lagrangian Stochastic Models for Turbulent Dispersion
Lagrangian Mode Geophysical Mon © 2012. American 10.1029/2012GM This article briefly summarizes the historical evolution of the modern Lagrangian stochastic (LS) class of models for the calculation of fluid element (or particle) paths in turbulence. The fundamental advantages of a “first-order” LS model relative to alternative descriptions of turbulent dispersion are (1) its ability to correctl...
متن کاملOn the Well-Mixed Quasi-One-Dimensional Formulation of Lagrangian Stochastic Models for Turbulent Relative Dispersion
The derivation of Quasi-One-Dimensional Model for turbulent relative dispersion (Kurbanmuradov, Monte Carlo Methods and its applications, 3(1), 37-52, 1997) is reviewed and an error is detected. An estimation of the difference between the correct and the incorrect formulations is given in a very simplified turbulence. The correct formulation proves to behave more in agreement with results obtai...
متن کاملA Lagrangian Stochastic Model for Heavy Particle Dispersion in the Atmospheric Marine Boundary Layer
The dispersion of heavy particles and pollutants is often simulated with Lagrangian stochastic (LS) models. Although these models have been employed successfully over land, the free surface at the air-sea interface complicates the implementation of traditional LS models. We present an adaptation of traditional LS models to the atmospheric marine boundary layer (MBL), where the bottom boundary i...
متن کاملLagrangian stochastic models for turbulent relative dispersion based on particle pair rotation
The physical picture of a fluid particle pair as a couple of material points rotating around their centre of mass is proposed to model turbulent relative dispersion in the inertial range. This scheme is used to constrain the non-uniqueness problem associated to the Lagrangian models in the well-mixed class and the properties of the stochastic process derived are analysed with respect to some tu...
